Biography

Megaglitch is an electronic synthwave/darkwave music producer from South West England, UK. Otherwise known as Fabz to most of his friends, MG’s love for composing synth based music materialized while learning to play the guitar at 17. In his late teens and early twenties, he began experimenting with rock and electro-pop, producing a few original EPs, as well as playing with other musicians and bands at local venues. In 2006, Fabz gave up writing, recording, and playing music to pursue a career as a visual artist and designer, which would later evolve into web design and development. Having a family also put producing music on hold for a long time. However, it remained a passion lost in his heart.

It wasn’t until 2015 that he would pick up the guitar again. “I was never really that good at it, but I enjoyed having a strum now and again” – Fabz.

Finally, during an incidental time, when the world was heading into an unprecedented lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, Megaglitch was born and Fabz’s love for creating music was re-ignited.

Megaglitch started as a fun little lockdown project.

“I had spent years setting up and building my online businesses, and so things were running on autopilot, for the most part. When the COVID lockdown happened, the freelance industry took a massive hit. It began to slow down fast, however, I had created some courses, and affiliate businesses that continued to earn passive income. So whilst there were no new web design clients in the pipeline, I needed something to do to stay productive and creative. And so there it was, the perfect opportunity to re-light my love for creating electronic music. Most of 2020 was spent researching, buying a bunch of gear, and learning how to produce music again. It was a lot of fun”.

“I had to rediscover everything and refresh my understanding of using DAWs, VSTs, synth emulators, plugin effects, sequencers, mixers, etc. So many of these things now are digital, and most of these weren’t in abundance during the late 90s and early 2000s. I know I’m showing my age now, but so much has changed since I last dabbled with knobs and faders, haha. But, again, I’ve had a lot of fun learning, and long may this continue”.

“I remember recording my first couple of songs using an old Tascam 488 MkII cassette recorder back in the day. And then later moved to a Roland VS880EX workstation. Yup, I’m a dinosaur. I think I started learning about Daws around 2006 having used Cubase SX for a little while and then that was the end. I closed the door on the music subject”.

His first single in over 15 years, titled ‘The Breach’, was released on Bandcamp in December 2020.

“The track wasn’t that great. It was my first jab back into producing music. But the feeling of releasing new music was something else ” – Fabz.

On September 22nd, 2021, Fabz released his first record under his new stage name, Megagltich, titled ‘Endless Echoes‘, currently available on Bandcamp.

Megaglitch’s sound can be defined as energetic, dreamy, ambient, and sometimes quite dark. While his aim is to create synthwave-inspired music, there is no genre in which his music is clearly defined.

His songs take inspiration from the likes of Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, and David Arkenstone to name a few. As well as modern artists like Dynatron, Kavinsky, and Bestrack.

MG creates music using a mixture of classic analog and software synth sounds. He loves nothing more than to spend a few hours creating new sounds from scratch and building a library of presets to use in later projects.

Whilst most synthwave music is all about synths, it’s the rhythm and basslines are often most prominent in Megaglitch’s sound.
